Pitt County, North Carolina, is home to over 175,000 residents and more than 20 departments working daily to serve its diverse and growing population. As part of its ongoing commitment to transparency, accessibility, and professional communication, the County has taken thoughtful steps to streamline how it manages public information and branding across departments.
When Melinda Hines joined as Pitt County Government’s first Public Information Digital Marketing Specialist, the County saw an opportunity to take its communications and branding to the next level. With multiple departments already creating valuable content and resources, the goal was to unify these efforts and ensure a shared, consistent experience for staff, residents, and external partners.
At the time, digital assets and communication tools were spread across various systems—shared drives, email, cloud folders—and many staff members were managing content independently. While this reflected the initiative and hard work of each department, it also presented a chance to improve coordination and create a more scalable system that better supported cross-departmental efforts, onboarding, public campaigns, and ADA compliance.
Pitt County envisioned:
Drawing on prior experience, Melinda introduced Lingo as a natural solution to support Pitt County’s communications strategy. Within her first few months, the Public Information Office (PIO) launched both internal and public-facing Lingo portals that now serve as the go-to source for assets, branding, and messaging.
With Lingo, the PIO team reduced email back-and-forth and built a repeatable, scalable approach to asset sharing. Departments and vendors now know exactly where to go, saving time and ensuring a consistent visual identity.
“Lingo has helped us align as one team, one voice, and one brand, all working together to serve our community better,” says Melinda.
Departments now have instant access to Kits containing logos, colors, approved fonts, and visual assets. This reduces brand inconsistencies and makes it easier for staff and vendors to stay aligned, especially during fast-moving projects or high-visibility campaigns.
“Before Lingo, we had spread across various locations. Now it’s easy to send one link and be confident they’ll find exactly what they need.”
From large-scale efforts like Social Work Month to ongoing department updates, Lingo allows for faster asset sharing, fewer email requests, and quicker rollout times. Everything from press-ready graphics to social media templates is just a click away.
“The automatic file conversion is a small thing that saves us a huge amount of time. Lingo’s tools are just smart.”
Lingo makes it easy to deliver the right content to the right people. Internal Kits contain training and compliance tools, while public Kits provide ready-to-use assets for news outlets, creative partners, and new employees.
“Lingo is now part of our employee onboarding site. New staff don’t have to wait or email. They go straight to the portal and get what they need.”
“Even saving a few asset requests per week gives us back time to work on bigger communication goals. Lingo helps us maintain quality and consistency with a lean team.”
Many counties face similar challenges—balancing limited staffing with growing public expectations for fast, accessible, and consistent communication. Pitt County demonstrates that with the right system, even small teams can deliver a big impact.
Lingo supports Pitt County by enabling its staff to:
“Lingo has helped us move forward as a modern, unified government brand.”
