Many of our customers have been telling us that Lingo is becoming their team’s ultimate source of truth for both brand assets and UI component designs.
But there’s a missing piece: for some teams, Lingo can’t fully do its job without a level of automation and integration with other tools. We’ve heard you say you want to add a build step for your apps that pulls the latest icons into code repos, generate design tokens from colors stored in Lingo, and more.
Today we are making this possible by releasing the first public version of our REST API to Plus and Enterprise customers at no additional cost. Here’s how it works:
For this initial release, we focussed on being able to access any content in your Lingo space. This means you can use the API to:
To simplify the process of getting up and running with Node.js, we have also published a JavaScript client for Lingo’s API on NPM. (You can make calls to the API using any language, but if you would like to see an official client for another language, let us know!)
The API has been in a private beta release for a few months. Lingo customers have been kicking the tires, and so far the response has been very positive. One customer has already released a library on NPM to download Lingo assets into a local folder structure.
We are eager to get your feedback to build the next iteration of Lingo’s API so you can build more useful asset workflows and get even more value out of Lingo. We already have some ideas (like webhooks and write access), but we need to hear from you about how you want to integrate Lingo into your processes, so we can make sure we solve your real-world asset management pain points.
We’d love to hear what you think, so leave a comment below, shoot us an email or tweet at us.
